Why Community Is Important

Why Community Is Important
Discover why Christian community matters, how GODly relationships offer support and accountability, and practical ways to build connections that help you grow in faith. You can value quiet time and still need people. In fact, learning to balance solitude with meaningful connection can make a real difference in how you grow, navigate challenges, and live out your faith. Christian community is more than having a busy social calendar: it’s having people who encourage you, offer wise perspective, and help you keep GOD at the center.
On Count It All Joy, I reflect on why we need other people to grow, endure hardship, and live out our faith. Drawing on Scripture and my own experience, I explain how GOD-centered relationships can offer perspective, accountability, encouragement, and practical support. I explore the Biblical call to community through Psalm 133:1-3, which celebrates the goodness of living in unity. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 describes how people can help one another through hard times. Community doesn’t remove life’s challenges, but having someone there to help can make the burden lighter. Trusted relationships can also introduce us to perspectives beyond our own. I connect this to empathy, understanding how people are shaped by their environments, and learning to consider more than one side of an issue. I share how saying yes to campus events during my fifth year of college helped me build lasting friendships and grow beyond isolation. Proverbs 11:14 points to the value of wise counsel. I encourage listeners to choose people who positively influence them and help them pursue GOD. I also describes how my longtime friend, Austin, balances his directness with empathy and patience, showing how friends’ strengths can complement one another. Community can provide accountability during temptation, isolation, or unproductive periods. I delve into the value of having people who can check in, offer guidance, and help you stay on course. Hebrews 3:13 and 10:24-25 call believers to encourage one another and keep meeting together. Galatians 6:2 reminds listeners to carry one another’s burdens while also respecting healthy limits. I close by encouraging listeners to pray for the right friendships and community, be specific with GOD, and stay open to support.
